UPDATE: Broken-hearted Tommie Bear returned to shelter again and now he just mopes

Tommie Bear sleeps soundly on his bed in Houston, Texas, and hardly ever observes people walking by his caged home. After only a few months, Harris County Pets received the heartbroken dog back.

Tommie Bear, a stray who had been microchipped and put on a contact owner hold for six days, came into the shelter in June 2020. The dog was up for adoption twice, but the first family that took him either let him roam free or returned him to the shelter.

Four months later, Tommie Bear is still in the shelter, surrounded by loud noises, unfamiliar people, and an unclear future. As a result, he is a depressed and unhappy puppy. Tommie Bear has not received a lot of reward for good behavior or human contact.

The adopter worries that he becomes overly possessive of the person he adopts and might not be appropriate among kids. In particular, this kind of dog need ongoing leadership and supervision.

A volunteer at the shelter said, "It makes me sad and disturbed, and that's why I believe he needs a rescue to oversee his adoption this time." Adopters don't have the required experience, and Tommie doesn't deserve to be put to death once more in this way, the volunteer added.

Here are some reminders from Tommie Bear's unfortunate experience with the shelter:

THE LAST UPDATE WAS ON 10/22, AND TOMMIE KS THE BEAR, WHO HAD JUST BEEN ADOPTED, HAS COME BACK! He must have a new home, preferably a beautiful one! Please give me another one!

UPDATE 7/9: We regret to inform you that Tommie doesn't seem to be leaving right now. He is currently back on adoption hold, so we are still awaiting the decision, albeit we are unsure why the email said he was adopted yesterday. I'll contact you tomorrow to keep everyone updated.

He is still looking for a home as of 7/6/2014. We'll monitor his situation until he gets a home because he hasn't yet left the shelter.

-UPDATE 6/29: There are currently two persons behind Tommy in line for adoption, but Tommy is still waiting.

The fact that Tommy was adopted by a decent family that treated him as an actual member of the family and loved him is the most important part of the entire story.

"Our bear is doing great, and my family and I just recently got him!" The new mother of Tommie Bear said, "He's a huge cuddling bear, and his name fits him nicely.
